The Wellness Industry on the Rise

The Wellness Industry on the Rise

Even with the global economy dipping by almost 4% from 2013-2015, certain industries have set themselves apart for their resilience and double-digit growth. According to a report released by the New Global Wellness Institute, the wellness industry increased by over 10% during that same time frame, reaching a 3.72 trillion market.

Those numbers make it one of the most resilient industries on the market. The report grouped together ten specific markets to make up what they term the ‘wellness’ industry. Among the cluster of wellness markets analyzed, the top five include:

  • Personalized medicine & public health
  • Fitness & mind-body
  • Wellness lifestyle real estate
  • Wellness tourism
  • Nutrition & weight loss

The rise in consumer interest was attributed to several factors, including: an aging world population; a national disease and stress epidemic; and uncontrollable rising healthcare costs. These trends are in line with The Soma Institute’s purpose and mission. For decades, Soma has been dedicated to training and preparing clinical massage therapists to provide exemplary health care—as well as demonstrating a commitment to lifelong learning and community service.

As evidenced by the Global Wellness Institute’s report, careers associated with these industries are seeing an explosion of talent. Now is the time to get involved if you’ve ever considered a career in this exciting profession.
